About Soul Munchies

It was early 2008, and I had just been laid off from my job as a Real Estate Attorney. I found myself in a time of deep discernment and began to use writing as my processing tool. I wanted to share my writings with the world, well … at least with the tiny world that may want to see the inner workings of my brain.

I wanted a safe—but public—place to wrestle with questions of faith and daily life. I wanted a place where people could come to read, mull over, comment, and dialogue with me. I wanted a community.

Since then, I've been through a divorce, re-marriage, a couple of job transitions, several transitions between faith communities, the birth of two children, the purchase and sale of a house we loved dearly, and a huge move from Atlanta - the city we called home for most of our lives to a North Shore suburb of Boston. These big events have shaped me—and Soul Munchies—into what it is today: a place where I explore what it looks like to live simply and faithfully.

The name “Soul Munchies” came from a friend. I was describing my vision for this new writing project of mine. “It will be filled with writings that will encourage, will challenge—you know—stuff for people to mentally chew on,” I told him. “What about ‘Soul Munchies’? Little snacks, or munchies, for our souls?” It felt perfect. And the site came to be.

Welcome to my little corner of the Internet. I hope you’ll grab a cuppa and sit down for some munchies for your soul.
